Is There Such a Thing as Free Rehab?
The Cost of Recovery

Are you or a loved one realizing it’s time for some real help? Maybe you’ve even tried short-term programs and still struggle to maintain sobriety.

There is no better time than the present to begin your journey into sobriety. Rehab is an investment in yourself and your future. With that said – you’re probably wondering how will this get paid for?

How can I pay for recovery? Is there such a thing as free rehab?

All of these are valid questions. Rehab is a financial, emotional and physical commitment. Picking the right program for you can be a tough decision because of the great variety of programs and high level of investment. In the United States alone, there are over 14,500 specialized drug treatment facilities that provide services to individuals and help them recover. The cost of these treatment facilities fluctuates across the country up to the thousands per month. But this raises another question…

Does higher investment equal guaranteed sobriety? Is there such thing as affordable or free rehab?

How much does recovery cost?

Being able to cover the costs of a rehab program is not a privilege every individual has. Inpatient rehab costs can range from $6,000 for a 30 day program up to a steep $60,000 for a 90 day program at some centers. This tremendous variation depends on things like the size of the program, treatments offered and length. Short-term programs do come at a lower cost and might work for some but many of the current students at John Volken Academy (JVA) have been to multiple short-term programs without success despite the high program costs. Read one student’s experience with short term versus long-term recovery programs.

Financial barriers can push away people who want to put their addictions past them and even entice them to give up on the idea of rehab entirely. Public beds fill up quickly and often have long wait lists due to high demand for “free rehab”. The JVA location in Surrey, British Columbia currently has availability for those ready to begin the recovery journey today. Keep reading to find out about the “cost” of recovery at JVA because we do believe everyone deserves a chance.

It’s important for individuals who are interested in long term recovery to not give up because there are other options.

The JVA program is sponsored by private charitable foundations, friends of the Academy, businesses and the government. This allows us to heavily subsidize our program fees and provide high quality and effective treatment at a cost well below the average.

After a one-time $5,000 intake fee, the program is free.

For a long term program, this fee is nominal. Our students live within our community for around two years to address root causes of addiction, learn a different lifestyle, gain work experience and pursue whatever education is of interest. The program focuses on a long-term approach and gives participants the tools they need to stay sober after graduation.

We are a therapeutic community that believes in the power of group work and peer counselling to help our students address their addiction and to love themselves.
