Cycling across Canada for Sobriety

On May 1st, our former student Mat Fee, who graduated from the John Volken Academy in March 2018, started his journey across Canada on his BMX bike. From the age of three, Mat discovered a passion for riding his bike. His dream to ride his bike across Canada started when he was 7, but trauma and addiction ultimately plagued his life for nearly 20 years until he was desperate for help. In 2016, he found a way out when he made the choice to come to the John Volken Academy, a 2-year addiction recovery program.

Now, a year after graduation and with a renewed sense of self, Mat made his dreams a reality. Without the John Volken Academy, those dreams would have remained unreachable, so his goal now is to channel his passion for riding bikes into his new passion for life, recovery, and sobriety.

Mat’s hope is to raise awareness that recovery is possible, to help end the stigma of addiction, and to share with others that there is an affordable treatment center in Canada that works!
